Melissa J. Shea President of the Long Island Real Estate Investor Association (LIREIA) since November of 2007. The organization has been in existence since 2001. She has been a successful small business owner since 1996 and real estate investor since 2004.
Melissa is active in the real estate educational world outside of the LIREIA as well, hosting educational seminars on how to structure and finance deals and rehabbing distressed properties as well as financial education for both adults and children. As the lead instructor of Mentoring Masterminds, her goal is to motivate individuals to attain financial freedom through real estate investing. She is a licensed NY Real Estate Broker and has experience in negotiating short sales and working with homeowners facing foreclosure and assisting homeowners to stay in their homes.
Melissa began investing in real estate in May of 2004 by 2009 acquired a portfolio of over 360 rental units mainly in the Alabama and Mississippi areas. In addition, Melissa has experience in purchasing private notes, brokering private money, raising over $20 Million in capital for real estate, overseen and operated a property management company, wholesaled over 100 different contracts, as well as managed over 300 rehabs.
Since 2006 Melissa has been an advocate of emergency housing for victims of domestic abuse and for those disabled throughout Long Island, NY, and Birmingham, Alabama and South Carolina by providing housing, food, and weekly house meetings. Melissa lives in Suffolk County with her husband John and is a mother of eight children and believes in living life in all areas of living abundantly.

After many years managing Treasury Operations at tier 1 financial institutions, I’ve turned my hand to my first love, Real Estate Investing. I have been investing since 1982 when I purchase my first home. I bought it for $53,000 and sold it 3 years later for $197,000.00. I was hooked, and have since been involved in all facets of the industry, buying and selling 25 plus properties, private lending, and multifamily.
It’s refreshing to apply my knowledge and hands-on experience to support LIREIA. LIREIA develops achievable solutions for their members. I am privileged to work with some of the smartest and innovators people in the Real Estate industry

I’ve been in the customer service industry since May of 2006. I’ve branched off into personal care and sales through the years as well. I started here at Long Island REIA in November of 2017. I’ve only been in the Real Estate industry since starting here at LIREIA and have learned a lot in this short amount of time. I’m here to provide our members (and those looking to become members) with any information they might need regarding our Association in what we provide our members and what we’re all about. I have worked for the US Dept. of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service for almost 20 years. I am also
enjoying success as a real estate investor while laboring to support Leon Gellineau’s Wire Hider project.
I have worked several entrepreneurial activities prior to my government service. My most daunting task
has been operating as a Small Disadvantaged Business with the Small Business Administration doing
business with government agencies, like the US Dept. of Defense as my primary customer.
C& P Energy was registered as a sole proprietorship in Suffolk County New York during August 1992.
The sole proprietorship then joint venture with a major overseas firm for the purpose of selling and
delivering coal to American military facilities in Germany. This work was done with the US Dept. of
Defense. Our joint venture was successful in obtaining low bids on 4 out of 10 overseas solicitations
over a period of 10 years. This joint venture ended around the early 2000’s, when the federal
government changed its requirement to only provide U S domestic coal to overseas facilities.
C & P Energy continued to work with the US Dept. of Defense to supply Petroleum. Together with a
petroleum partner, C& P Energy successfully bid and supplied petroleum to domestic military facilities in
New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The partnership successfully won and performed on three (3) different
contracts before our partnership dissolved because of differences between the participants.
I have worked as a mortgage banker for US Mortgage Bankers and a real estate agent with Caldwell
Banker for several years in each capacity. However, my primary work experience as a financial analyst
has been working as a Surety Bond Underwriter for about 12 years.
I have been trained and worked as a Surety Bond Underwriter for the Travelers Insurance Company,
operating in the New York Metro marketplace and the Safeco Insurance Company, working in the Rocky
Mountain Region. I have had hands on experience underwriting General Contractors and Major SubTrades
on major projects like the original World Trade Towers and multiple additional projects in New
York, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey.
An introductory work experience was working for the NYC Economic Development Administration’s
Dept. of Commerce & Industry. I worked here during the John Lindsey Administration, as Mayor of New
York. The Lindsey Administration was responsible to develop the City’s Industrial Park programs like the
following: Willets Point in Queens, the Flatlands in Brooklyn, and Zerega Park in the Bronx. Our Dept.
of Commerce & Industry was responsible to provide tax incentive to business’s to relocate in these
industrial parks and to assist with training of their employment pool. This was all quite successful.

I arrived into the United States in 1993 from Russia. In my first year, I understood that I wanted to be in the Real Estate industry. I did not know the language yet or much of anything about real estate, but I knew I wanted to do it. I became a real estate agent. It didn’t last long as life took me in a different direction. Now I am a full time registered nurse, very proud and fortunate to have such a rewarding profession. However, all this time I could not forget my other passion – Real Estate. That’s how just a couple of years ago I came to Long Island Real Estate Investors Association hoping to achieve my goals and was blessed to become a part of a great organization and to grow professionally and personally with its dedicated members!.
